Natural Compliment to Microchips!

With the current trend toward micro-chipping pets for identification, it is clear that safety is important to pet guardians.

Protected Pet ID is a natural compliment to microchips.  However, it is also superior to pet microchips for the following reasons:

1.       With the microchip, the animal obviously has to be present to scan for the chip, which is impossible when the pet is missing.  With our program, the pet’s information is already current, stored & ready to distribute the moment the pet disappears! Protected Pet ID fills the gap between when a pet goes missing and when it is found so it can be scanned!

2.      There are three different brands of microchips and each requires their own specific scanner.  If a pet is located and the shelter or vet has the “wrong” scanner, the chip will likely not be located. While there are some "universal" scanners that can read more than one chip, there is no scanner that can read ALL chips.

3.       Microchips have been known to migrate to different areas in a pet’s body where they may not be found.

In contrast, Protected Pet ID allows the pet owner to become immediately involved in the recovery of their furry companion!  It also lets the owner keep the pet’s information current at home, rather than trying to remember to submit any new information about the pet to a microchip registry.

Just as with our SKIP Safe Kids Identification Program, our Protected Pet ID Program was borne out of our work with women in domestic violence shelters.  Many victims refuse to leave their abusive relationship if they cannot take their pet with them, fearful of what the abuser will do to the pet for retribution.

There is a clear established link between domestic violence and animal cruelty.  The Humane Society of the United States offers an educational program to the public addressing this unfortunate correlation.  It is called the First Strike Program and can be found online at http://www.hsus.org
